Flesh and Coin by Craig Saunders
Flesh and Coin by Craig Saunders was received direct from the publisher in exchange for this review. The novella starts out slow, almost painfully slow, but pick up about 50% into it. This sounds like a lot but it is not really that long a novella. The storyline about death and a hospice with a figure called the Shadowman roaming around. A character Hattie, who was a real b*tch, I never “got” what her role was is involved. As the novella picks up speed toward the end, the reader has to keep up or be left behind, with me finding myself re-reading Kindle pages to comprehend what I may have missed with the jumping around. I do like this author but this is not his best work. I was struggling between 3 and 4 stars but since the novella did not bore me and I did not skim, I went with four stars overall. If you like the author, or short quick reads about the aforementioned topics, certainly pick up this novella.
