Cold as Hell by David Searls was provided to me direct from the publisher in exchange for this review. To start out, I am going against the mainstream with this review in that I did not particularly like this novella. It started out strong, with the “kids on a kiddie train ride to be back in 18 minutes and dad grabbing a drink in that 18 minutes,” sort of way. From there it got weird and lost me, I have no idea what the outcome was supposed to symbolize. This was the first I read of this author and I will not shun his works, actually I will read the very next thing I see by him so I can see if it is the proverbial “me or him,” making me clueless about this story.
