When Freedom Calls Great Escapes of the Second World War by Robert Jackson was received directly from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. For some reason, when I read the title of this book, I immediately thought of Hogans Heroes, the old television show for some of you younger readers. Secondly, this book is a reprint of a book originally released in 1973, for some people, that is important information. This book details successful and not so successful escapes by American prisoner of war (POW)s as well as other nationalities. The escapes were from many different nations camps on both sides of the war. If this interests you or someone you buy gifts for, give this book a try. This is my first book by this author, that I recall anyway, and if you like military themed books, based upon this one, please give some of his other works a read after this one. 4 stars
