Four Against the West by Joe Pappalardo was received directly from the publisher and I chose to review it. Any Gen Xer probably remembers the highly glamorized movie The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean that was on televsion while we were growing up. This book is about Roy and his three brothers, each person told as a different storyline. The book covers their lifes as they fight the Mexican-American war, helping to obtain Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada, Arizona, Utah and California , the US Civil War , the Spanish-American war and the times of the Wild Wild West. If you are interested in those times or the history of those wars, you or someone you buy gifts for should read this book. You will learn Judge Roy was not near the nice guy portrayed by Hollywood.
