Scarecrows by Christine Hayton
Scarecrows by Christine Hayton was provided by the publisher in exchange for this review. Most of us, if not all of us know what to expect when we see a horror themed book or movie with SCARECROWS in the title. This book does not follow what you are expecting. In my opinion it was more a murder mystery that takes place in Canada. While SCARECROWS are part of the murders (or are they), the book left me wondering what exactly I just read. Was it ghosts of crimes past, was it mental illness, were SCARECROWS protecting their “turf?” Anyway, the book was kind of slow at times and I did find myself skimming to get through lengthy dialogue. The SCARECROWS, if they even existed were not a primary player in the novella. The novella was well written but kind of slow for my tastes and as you can tell, I am not sure what went on after one read. Before the haters start attacking, I know, that could be my fault. Anyway if you like crime stories, murder, old mobsters and burial grounds, this is the book for you or whomever you are giving it to as a gift.
